Organic Heirloom Seeds

Organic heirloom seeds are those seeds from plants that culture themselves. Meaning, that there has not been any hybrid introduction to the seed genetically. They produce their own seeds, and continually produce the same type of plant, as well as the fruit or vegetable from the originals.

Organic heirloom seeds are easily grown due to their resistance to local pests, drought, frost, and often, grow very well in local soils without fertilizers. This makes heirloom seeds and plants imminently suitable for organic farmers.

Heirloom seeds are those that have not been genetically altered at all, many of the seeds you purchase in garden stores today are hybrid varieties. These heirloom seeds are genetically the same as when they were first introduced to local farmers. While there may have been crossbreeding that went along in the late 1800s and early 1900s, these seeds are genetically the same as those that were planted over 50 years ago. In fact, many of these seeds have a history, similar to livestock pedigrees; you'll know where they came from, how they were designed, and who used them.

The best part about organic heirloom seeds is they're easy to use, grow well, and produce wonderfully textured, colorful and tasty produce. In fact many people are realizing that that the hybrid produce at groceries and the supermarket, while they may well be pretty and uniform are actually rather tasteless in comparison. Heirloom seeds offer a chance for produce to grow with unique colors, textures, and are often known to be more flavorful than hybrid varieties.

The reason organic farmers are enjoying the organic heirloom seeds is the fact that they reproduce seeds themselves. This gives the farmer an opportunity to either plant the same crop over and over, or use an heirloom seed exchange to trade their particular heirloom seed for a different variety or vegetable.

You can research heirloom seeds easily quickly on the Internet, and also researched the different varieties of vegetables that are available in in fact, today, you can also find organic herb heirloom seeds, fruit, and of course most of the vegetables that are in production today. There are certain heirloom seeds that are considered on the dangerous species list, so if you choose to grow some of these be sure to save seeds away in case you were plants are the last.

There is no doubt that all of the pesticides, fertilizers, and growth hormones that are used in major crop farming today, not only produce vegetables and fruit with less taste, but also can be dangerous biologically. Choosing to purchase organic fruit and produce will only increase the production of this type of produce. So if you have an opportunity to produce or purchase organic heirloom seeds for vegetables, do so, and the market will grow, the costs will drop, and the whole planet will benefit.
